XEL-HA, RIVIERA MAYA, NOVEMBER 8, 2009.- Ricardo García Riverol from the Mexican state of Yucatan (1 hour, 2 minutes, 13 seconds) and Fabiola Corona native from Jalisco (1 hour, 6 minutes, 37 seconds) were the winners that triumphantly finished in first place the Sprint Triathlon Xel-Ha 2009 in the separate categories for men and women of this truly exciting and moving multi-sport journey, with a quota of 648 triathletes and hundreds of friends and families who turned the challenge into the most successful competition.

Despite unfavourable and adverse weather conditions such as the threat of the tropical storm “Ida”, the Sprint Triathlon Xel-Ha was carried out without any inconveniences starting at 7 o’clock in the morning, the starting signal was in charge of Miguel Quintana Pali, General Director of Xel-Ha, exact time when triathletes gathered at the floating bridge located at the inlet of Xel-Ha Park, to begin the 750 meters swimming race.

The Natural Park Xel-Ha, Natural Wonder, on the occasion of its XV sustainable operation years to celebrate on November this year, launches the 2009 Sprint Triathlon Xel-Ha announcement which will take place as starting point the impressive principal inlet, jewelry of Cancun-Riviera Maya destiny, with an amazing Caribbean Sea view.

The announcement was made public by Elizabeth Lugo, Executive Director of Xel-Ha, in an event where she was with Javier Aranda, General Director of Riviera Maya Touristic Promotion Trust; Dario Flota, Vice-minister of Tourism Promotion Board; Guillermo Garavito, President of State Triathlon Organization; Erika Mitzunaga, Public Relation Manager for Latin America and Europe of Convention & Visitors Bureau Cancun; Alejandro Ilizarriturri, General Manager of Sport City; and Daniel Elbiorn, Trade Director of Xel-Ha. Also prominent Cancun-born triathletes Aiko Ramos and Sebastian Lizarzaburu were present.

The Natural Park Xel-Ha registered its 8,000,000th visitor. Armando Robledo Lara, from Mexico City , who during his summer vacations in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, had the lucky strike of getting to the park’s box offices to purchase his tickets to the Natural Wonder, and receiving the huge surprise of being granted permanent free access.

Due to this event, Elizabeth Lugo Monjarrás, Executive Director of Xel-Ha, bestowed our distinguished guest with an 8,000,000th visitor certificate, so he and his family can visit the Natural Wonder, anytime they want to, for life.

CANCUN-RIVIERA MAYA; MEXICO.-Xel-Há Meliponary framed a moving ceremony where gratitude for the harvest was offered. Lead by the mayan priest Pedro May Canul and witnessed by the famous Mexican singer a href=”http://orbita.starmedia.com/~rodrigocontreras/Ana_Barbara.htm” target=”_blank”>Ana Bárbara.
as special guest.

The “Xunaan Cab” or Meliponini Bee Honey Harvesting Ceremony is celebrated twice a year in Xel-Ha, in June and December, on full moon days. A Mayan priest assists to the Meliponary and leads a ritual where he thanks Mayan deities for their blessings and bees fertility. The distinctive characteristic of the Meliponini Bee or Mayan Bee is that they have no sting and the honey they produce has a high nutritional and medical value.

Ana Barbara and her family were present in the different acts of the ceremony in “The Altar”, “The Meliponary” where bee populations are placed, “The Harvest” as well as the prayer, having as background music the Maya Pax or “Sound of God”.
