MEXICO, DISTRITO FEDERAL; MARCH 2009.- For the eighth consecutive year the natural park Xel-Ha attained the Socially Responsible Company (ESR) award, which is handed by the Mexican Centre for Philanthropy (CEMEFI), within the VII Socially Responsible Companies Latin-American encounter 2009.

This distinction has special relevance to Xel-ha, since it is the only company in Quintana Roo, that has been entitled to this award uninterruptedly since 2002, achievement only attained by 9 companies in Mexico.

To celebrate its 14th anniversary, Xel-Ha natural park, among Cancun-Riviera Maya’s most important tourist attractions, passed its audit with a 100% qualification, thus obtaining the H Distinctive certification in its food and beverage consumption centres, including the Commissariat, a building constructed by DarKitectos for Xel-Ha Park between 2007 and 2008, with an investment totalling over 50 million pesos.

The Commissariat is a building complex that increases the efficiency of provision supply, storage, preparation, and service of food and beverages to Xel-Ha’s restaurants and bars. This construction was undertaken in adherence to the strict functionality, security, and hygiene regulations, making it one Mexico’s most modern and efficient facilities of its kind, with a production capacity of at least 20,000 servings per turn, daily.

Xel-Ha’s 4th Expression Forum, carried out in Kukulkan Plaza between September 25th to 27th, was hailed as a overall success. More than seventy artworks including painting, sculpture, and photography were exhibited to the public in Cancun, on behalf of local artists that took this chance to flaunt their creativity.

GUADALAJARA, JALISCO; SEPTEMBER 9.- Jorge Villalobos, president of the Mexican Philanthropy Centre (CEMEFI), summoned Mexican and Latin American corporations to join social responsibility movements, which, he remarked, will represent an important distinction in the private sector of the 21st century. This occurred during the 2008 International Seminary for the Best Socially Responsible Corporate Actions, wherein Xel-Ha received the Award for Best Socially Responsible Corporate Action, in the environmental category.

With this award, received by Xel-Ha’s head of Sustainable Development, Ricardo Saenz, Xel-Ha became one of the 40 Latin American companies to receive this year’s acknowledgements for their extraordinary labour towards caring for the environment, and the preservation of culture and traditions, alongside important corporations such as Petrobras and Natura, from Brazil, Cemex, Vitro, and Cuahtemoc Moctezuma, from Mexico, among others.

For the second time in 2008, Xel-Ha Natural Wonder was awarded a national acknowledgment for its ongoing labour at the “Waste Recollection and Transfer Centre”, in which over 400 tons of waste matter is gathered and separated yearly; the Mexican Philanthropy Centre will deliver the prize to the Best Company Practices in the “Integral Management of Solid Wastes” category.

During the event, that will be held September 8^th in Guadalajara, several corporate practices will be acknowledged, which, as Xel-Ha’s, contribute to caring for the environment and are worthy examples on a national level: “Recycling and Treatment for Residual Waters”, by Colgate Palmolive; “Residual Co-processing” by CeMex; “Alternative Energy Recycling Program for Ecosystem Conservation”, by Cementos Cruz Azul; as well as “Sustainable management for spent tyres”, by Holcim Apasco, amongst several others.
