Xel-Ha, designated among Mexico’s Natural Wonder in 2007, became the first company in Quintana Roo to clearly and voluntarily share its social and environmental contributions, within the context of the 10 principles for the United Nations’ Global Compact, and based on the international standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
Entitled “Thirteen Years of Sustainability”, Xel-Ha commenced the publication of its Social and Environmental Balance for 2007, document that describes the most relevant actions taken since 1995, to guarantee the preservation of the environment in which the company operates, the social development within its area of influence, its own financial viability, and the rescue and conservation of resources the use and enjoyment of future generations.
The publication’s exhibition was held during the Environmental Culture Week programmed by the Caribbean University, where Xel-Ha’s CEO, Elizabeth Lugo Monjarras, gave a dissertation concerning the natural park’s accomplishments regarding the safeguarding of its sustainability, as well as those oriented towards corporate social responsibility.

This past Friday saw the inauguration of the Technological Training Centre in ChemuyilWith the donation of 14 computers for the use of children, youths, and adults. This contribution to the development of the population’s technological skills and reducing the digital gap, aims to improve economic and social development within the population.
The alliance between Flora, Fauna, and Culture of Mexico, Microsoft Mexico, and Xel-Ha Park is an example of how corporate social responsibility and civilian organisations can concur in actions that achieve positive results for society in specific projects, regardless of each party’s individual labour or purpose.

For the second time in 2008, Xel-Ha Natural Wonder was awarded a national acknowledgment for its ongoing labour at the “Waste Recollection and Transfer Centre”, in which over 400 tons of waste matter is gathered and separated yearly; the Mexican Philanthropy Centre will deliver the prize to the Best Company Practices in the “Integral Management of Solid Wastes” category.
During the event, that will be held September 8th in Guadalajara, several corporate practices will be acknowledged, which, as Xel-Ha’s, contribute to caring for the environment and are worthy examples on a national level: “Recycling and Treatment for Residual Waters”, by Colgate Palmolive; “Residual Co-processing” by CeMex; “Alternative Energy Recycling Program for Ecosystem Conservation”, by Cementos Cruz Azul; as well as “Sustainable management for spent tyres”, by Holcim Apasco, amongst several others.

Happy to be able to enjoy more time with his wife, Gaby, and his daughter, Paola, Adal Ramones confessed his desire to return to national television with a renovated version of his well-known talk show “Otro Rollo,” which he said could probably return to air as soon as May 2009, with a special edition first show that would reunite the whole original cast: Yordi Rosado, Mauricio Castillo, Eduardo España, Jorge Alejandro, Roxana Castellanos, Manola Diez, and Gabriela Platas.
Teeming with emotion and nostalgia from missing his family, Adal Ramones attended the ceremony and planted the 99th tree at the Chacah Garden in Xel-Ha, and during an thrilling act dedicated to his daughter Paola, quoted: “Receive, Earth, this drop of love to return me to my beginnings; to my first breath, to my lost soul that seeks solace. I give to you myself so that it may transcend. An ounce of humanity. I hope that one day, I may descend as light and play amongst your leaves, smiling happily with my eyes closed and thinking of you.”

Entitled “Humankind in harmony with Nature”, Xel-Ha Natural Wonder and Epson launched their convocation for the 4th Photography Contest, 2008 Edition, which aims to encourage creativity and the use visual technique in order to raise awareness about the environment on a national and international level, with prizes that range from modern photographic equipment to All Inclusive trips to the Riviera Maya, as well as wonderful experiences such as swimming with dolphins.
According to the contest’s guidelines, all photographs on subjects relevant to humanity’s harmonious relationships with nature, which must be sent through the website es.xelha.com, in a *.jpg format with 72 dpi resolution. All top photographs would then be required in hi-res *.tiff format.
