Children and youths from Chemuyil, Quintana Roo, were invited to watch a professional league game courtesy of the state’s professional league baseball team, the Tigers, in an opportunity that was for many, their first time in a actual baseball stadium. The Tigers were pitted against the Minatitlan Oilers (Petroleros de Minatitlán) and struggled to victory by a single run at the end of the ninth inning.

The Tiger’s board of directors, in alliance with Xel-Ha, made it possible for 120 children and youngsters from Chemuyil and Tulum to experience the feel of a professional game, in the Beto Avila Stadium, and enjoy a thrilling game, especially in the final moments, when the home team, Tigers, scored the winning run walking with loaded bases. During the game, gifts were raffled for the children, and Ramiro Eduardo Ku Poot and Aaron Castro Jimenez, both from Chemuyil, were the enthusiastic winners of a bicycle for each.

Ramiro Eduard Ku is the youngest in a family of 13 brothers and is currently in his sixth year of grade school. His father passed away in 2005 and his mother followed barely three weeks ago. He now lives with one of his sisters, and his greatest wish is to continue his schooling and play baseball, if possible, in a professional league team. His brother is now pitcher for the Chemuyil little league team Leñeritos.

Aaron Castro, on the other hand, is studying the first year of secondary school. His mother works at a tortilla factory and his father is a janitor in a hotel. He plays for the Leñeritos and his family is well-known by the community for their dedication to work and study as a means to get ahead in life.
