In keeping with its annual tradition, Xel-Há recently had the opportunity to participate in the Juguetón 2008, a charity project endorsed by the Salinas Group and TV Azteca with the sole purpose of reaching children in underprivileged communities of Mayan territory, who often lack the resources to celebrate with toys and other gifts traditionally delivered on Día de Reyes. This catholic holiday, as important in Mexico as Christmas, emulates the arrival of the three eastern kings that brought gifts for baby Jesus.

On this occasion, the organizing companies were able to count on the help of many people eager to participate and reach these isolated communities spread about in the territory of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Companies such as Xel-Há and Bepensa arrived as early as eight o’clock in the morning to begin loading the trucks with merchandise donated not only by the endorsing companies, but a great number of citizens as well, all willing to join TV Azteca in its gargantuan charity effort.

Upon reaching the first communities after a long and difficult road, the fascinated, lit-up faces of girls and boys were plain to all participants, waiting anxiously for the arrival of the gift-loaded cargo trucks.

Xel-Há’s team began handing out toys together with their volunteers, and bit by bit, gift by gift, the trucks emptied their content. As the trucks drove away from each town, the heartwarming image of children trailing behind them, new toys in hand, remained in the memory of all our team.

Town after town, the sun finally passed its zenith and began to set. Several families, extraordinarily grateful for the arrival of the team assembled by TV Azteca, invited all participants to a meal of cochinita pibil embellished with delicious sauces and homemade tortillas.

As night fell the team finally returned to Cancun, trucks toy-less and yet so full of satisfaction and well-being, knowing that all along the winding, difficult roads, endless smiles and happiness had been spread.
