Nature was created in an infinite diversity of forms, colors, beings, aromas and landscapes. But when all the wonder of nature is discovered, admired and shared…it lives forever.

With the motto: “Our heritage is our future” the 7New Wonders of the World Foundation was born, which carried out the media campaigns in search for the 7 New Wonders of the world announced in the Official Ceremony held in Lisbon, Portugal on July 7th , this year. The winning sites were: Great Wall (China), Petra (Jordan), Christ the Redeemer (Brazil), Machu Picchu (Peru), Chichen Itza (Mexico), Colosseum (Italy), Taj Mahal (India) and the Pyramids of Giza (Honorary Candidate, Egypt).

Today begins the search for the 7 New Wonders of Nature that will be nominated through the Web until December 31st. This contest offers a new and exciting opportunity to reveal the favorite natural beauty of the world.

Xel-Há named officially one of the 13 Natural Wonders of Mexico by the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico (CPTM) and TV Azteca, today shares all the splendor of its natural richness. It is an honor to nominate Xel-Há as a representative of Mexico’s natural heritage competing in the worldwide category of Underwater Worlds.

Xel-Há celebrates being a Natural Wonder of Mexico. It is a place where you can enjoy the caress of turquoise waters as you follow a ray or rainbow parrot fish in an underwater adventure. Its most spectacular natural aquarium lies under the sunshine as an infinite inlet. It is a tropical dreamlike place where nature offers the most beautiful welcome with the chant of the birds…a special place with a Mayan past where many wonders are discovered in each visit.

Located south Cancun, Mexico, its name means in Mayan “place where water is born”. Xel-Há is an ecological park made up by a hydrologic system, the largest in the world that flows into inlets such as the one in Xel-Há. It is also made up by inlets, lagoons, cenotes and caves, all together with the most beautiful flora and fauna of the Mexican Caribbean.

Xel-Há Park is refuge of magnificent life. It is constituted by 84 hectares of which 14 hectares are water bodies, 10 hectares are services and 60 hectares of protected vegetation. The park is conformed by a group of natural systems such as land vegetation, beach and a hydro geologic system called inlet, where salty waters of the Caribbean Sea mix with fresh waters of the springs and underground rivers characteristic of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Xel-Há invites all of its visitors to explore a magical home. The forest of Xel-Há is the habitat of more than 100 hundred species of birds and 220 species of plants, flowers and trees. Its inlet is home to more than 90 marine species.
