Xel-Há and Tulum are officially “Wonders of Mexico”
Posted by: admin in Awards and acknowledgementsXel-Há and Tulum have always been essential places to visit even before Quintana Roo was a state. This combination of culture takes us back to our roots and to the Mayan past. To feel the beauty of Tulum’s Mayan architecture and the freedom of enjoying nature at Xel-Há Park, offer us the answer why both of these sites are wonders of Mexico.
The state of Quintana Roo is one of the most important tourist destinations of the country and worldwide. In addition, the tour Tulum-Xel-Há is one of visitor’s favorites.
So when the idea came out to create a contest to choose the wonders of Mexico, there was no doubt in selecting Tulum and Xel-Há as wonders of the state.
On September 25th, the winners of the contest 13 Wonders of Mexico which form a select group of Natural Wonders and Wonders Created by Man were announced.
Today it is an honor for Xel-Há and Tulum, both from the State of Quintana Roo, to be part of the group Natural Wonders and Wonders Created by Man of Mexico.
Thanks to the effort and work carried out by the Government of the State of Quintana Roo together with The Riviera Maya Tourism Promotion Board, and in coordination with Xel-Há Park and TV Azteca, an enormous support was generated by the local and national community in an intensive campaign that consisted on the following activities:
• Special visits to universities and high schools inviting students to join the campaign.
• Attending cleaning campaigns held by Gente por la Gente (community group) in the city of Cancun.
• Organizing cultural events together with TV Azteca, including a contest show with rescue dogs. The contest was promoted during the event, as well as in environmental awareness campaigns.
• Participating in local and national radio programs to inform the public about the commitment of Xel-Há towards the environment and the importance of being a natural wonder of the State of Quintana Roo.
• Inviting visitors of Xel-Há Park to vote for the wonders of Mexico through a computer that was installed at the entrance of the Park to access the web page of the contest.
• Inviting the community to participate in the campaign through a radio contest. The winners and radio presenters were given as gift day passes to Xel-Há Park.
• In coordination with The Riviera Maya Tourism Promotion Board gifts such as t-shirts and bracelets were given out to the community to promote the contest.
• The Riviera Maya Tourism Promotion Board together with the Cancun Convention & Visitors Office advertised the contest in their web pages and promoted Xel-Há and Tulum as Wonders of Mexico.
• Many businesses attached photos of Xel-Há and Tulum as electronic signatures.
• Three press conferences were offered to present the campaign and its progress.
• Two songs were composed in reference to the Wonders of Mexico.
• Special videos were made about Tulum and Xel-Há.
• An interview in the morning news program Hechos AM broadcasted nationwide.
The campaign began on July 17th and concluded on September 24th. On September 25th representatives from the wonder sites that participated in the contest were invited to a gala dinner with the board directors of TV Azteca and the Tourism Promotion Council of Mexico (CPTM) at Palacio de Minería in Mexico City.
