Public Accountant Carlos Manuel Joaquín González, Mayor of Solidaridad and Lic. Francisco Córdova Lira, Executive Director of Xel-Há Park awarded prizes to the winners of the second facades contest.

The mayor Carlos Manuel Joaquín González and Lic. Francisco Córdova Lira both revealed the importance of the Chemuyil Project as an example to follow for private businesses and the government.

Cd. Chemuyil, January 18th. Around 7 pm, authorities of the municipal government of Solidaridad, led by the current mayor, C.P. Carlos Joaquín González, met with representatives of Xel-Há, led by Lic. Francisco Córdova Lira, Executive Director and main promoter of Chemuyil Project.

After Lic. Elizabeth Lugo Monjarrás, General Manager of Xel-Há, welcomed residents of the area and collaborators of the park and praised their efforts, Lic. Córdova delivered an emotional speech in which he showed how the Xel-Há family actively helps build housings, parks, libraries, sports fields, equipments for elementary, junior high and high schools, as well as streets made of hydraulic concrete, façades and, most importantly, decent homes for the residents of Cd. Chemuyil.

Cd. Chemuyil, 18 de Enero.-This US$ 140,000 contest is taking place for the second year; Xel-Há donates the paint and the residents actively take part by painting and decorating their homes´ facades. This contest rates the respect of established colors (rusty red and cream), the existence of plants in front of houses, in gardens or flower pots, and the cleanliness of houses. The residents have taken such an active part in the event that Lic. Córdova announced there would be such a contest every year.

The jury was headed by the park Executive Committee, who selected 20 finalists from 180 close competitors, before carrying out a last selection in which they unanimously voted for Dorca Uc Chan and Luis Pérez Putt, a tie for third place, for their main façade with a butterfly pattern. The second place went to Mr. Fernando Gil Azueta, whose facade proved that the roots of Mexico are present in its people. Finally the first place was awarded to Ms. Mirna Tun Pacho, who strove to show a façade with the best garden in the area, and received congratulations from the Mayor.

The prizes were the following:

1st. prize: $20,000.00
2d. prize: $15,000.00
3rd. prize: $10,000.00

As a conclusion, Mayor Carlos Manuel Joaquín González said he was proud to see how beautiful Chemuyil had become, and he stressed the importance for private businesses to commit to restore and protect Mexican destinations. He also mentioned that his presidency has been and will be a government of support and solidarity.

The Chemuyil Project represents Mexico before the Bank of Good Practices of IARSE (Argentinian Institute of Social Responsibility), thanks to its inhabitants´ efforts and a $ 5,587,201.00 investment from 2001 to date, and the constant support of Lic Francisco Córdova Lira, Executive Director of Xel-Há; Lic. Elizabeth Lugo Monjarras, General Manager of Xel-Há; Ricardo Saenz Morales, Biologist and Manager of Sustainable Development of Xel-Há; Josefina Galván Morena, Head of Social Welfare and many other collaborators who make up the Xel-Há family.
